Bed-Stuy Duplex

WHAT: Kitchen, Entryway, and Bathroom renovation and reconfiguration

CHALLENGE: Creating a proper entry sequence into a second-floor apartment in a brownstone that had been split into two duplex units, and better connecting the area to the living room while retaining the brownstone character. The tiny kitchen needed to be expanded and storage made more efficient. A rarely used bathroom awkwardly opened directly into the dining/breakfast area.

SOLUTION: The fact that the existing breakfast area was rather large allowed us to absorb some of it into the kitchen, and some of it into a generous entry foyer that also helped to connect the front and rear rooms. A new, efficient wall of closets provides room for hanging coats in one and pantry/utility pull-outs in another.
